JOB SECURITY AND THE ECONOMY

The Abboud Economic Platform

“The cornerstone of a healthy economy is job creation and small business growth. If the United States is going to remain competitive in a 21st century global economy, it must become our single mission to restore America’s strategic manufacturing base and enact trade tax policies that foster American business owners to invest in America.”

- Bob Abboud, Candidate for Congress in Illinois’ 16th Congressional District

Building a New Economy with New Leadership

In order for the United States to remain a world leader in the new, 21st century economy, we must reinvigorate
our strategic manufacturing base. Never in the history of the modern world have nation’s remained prosperous without first establishing and growing their manufacturing capabilities. Strong manufacturing gives the
economy balance, creates jobs and keeps our middle class healthy and growing.

The new global economy will be built on the technological and scientific research and design being conducted today. New solutions in industries like energy, health care, computing and other new technologies. The U.S. houses the most renowned universities and technological institutes. Our most valuable resource is our intellectual property. The United States has an opportunity to design and manufacture the technologies of the future, technologies that we can sell abroad. We need new leaders that understand the industries of the future, leaders that recognize the new opportunities knocking on our door, leaders that will seize on those opportunities by supporting them legislatively.

As other nations like China and India grow economically stronger, competing with America for proxy over the worlds manufacturing, the United States government must support American businesses by investing our tax dollars in our own country. This not only means trade and tax policies that foster investment in American businesses, but also the spending of U.S. tax dollars inside our own borders. The Federal Government spends, on average, $2.77 trillion on goods services every year – a great deal of which is spent overseas. It should be the policy of our government to spend as much of our own tax dollars inside our borders as possible.

The Abboud Economic Platform is designed to support and grow the American economy and our businesses to be competitive in this new economy. This is not isolationism, but strategic investments and incentives that will begin putting America First… For a Change.

Broken Promises and Failed Leadership

The United States current economic crisis is not an ill turn of luck or the product of mere chance, it is the direct result of policies and leadership that have failed to recognize what is vital to America’s economic growth: policies that clearly support the great profit of very few, sacrificing the rightful opportunity and prosperity for a great many working families and individuals.

Time and time again our current representative has voted for tax breaks and trade policies that encourage businesses to move and grow their business to countries like China. Time and time again, our current representative has voted to allow defense contracts to be granted to foreign companies. And time and time again, Don Manzullo has put the interests of foreign nations, like China, before the interests of working Americans.

The stewardship of our economy and the prosperity of our families are in our hands. We can elect representatives to Congress that put the welfare of working families before big oil companies and wealthy special interests.

Putting America First… For a Change – The Abboud Economic Platform

The Abboud economic platform focuses on reforming U.S. trade, tax and energy policy. While the Abboud Comprehensive Energy plan directly confronts our current energy crisis, American energy independence is as important to the strength of our foreign policy as it is to the strength of our economy. Bob Abboud believes in investing in America first, ensuring jobs are created, manufacturing is growing and our businesses have every edge they need to remain competitive in the global marketplace.

Trade

In the wake of the free trade frenzy of the 90’s and the evolving myth that American manufacturing was a thing of the past, the United States has been left with a paper thin service economy and we are hemorrhaging jobs on which the middle class depends. For America to regain our status as a world economic leader we must use our trade policy to give American businesses and investors a competitive edge on the world market, but not at the expense of tens of thousands of good paying jobs here in the U.S.

Chinese trade policy is simple – if you want to sell it in China, you manufacture it in China. The U.S. is the only country with which China has a positive trade balance. Japan, Germany, England trade with China without sacrificing their own economic interest. American trade policy needs to be responsive to our economic needs in the same manner. Bob Abboud will not support trade policy that damages our economy, or jeopardizes the economic welfare of working families and individuals here at home.

The Abboud Trade Platform will:

  1.   Restore balance to U.S. trade agreements to create a level playing field for American manufacturing and other businesses.

  2.   Require Chinese companies wishing to sell their goods in the U.S. to manufacture a portion of those goods here.
  3.   Prevent Chinese manufacturers, subsidized by the Chinese government, from flooding the U.S. market with cheap goods.
  4.   Provide tax and trade incentives to encourage foreign companies to bring their businesses to the U.S.

Taxes – An Incentive, Not a Punishment

For nearly two decades, U.S. tax policy has punished businesses and investors for wanting to invest in the future of the United States, while simultaneously rewarding companies for moving their operations, the jobs they create and the revenue they generate overseas.

The Abboud Economic platform will only support tax policies that work as an incentive for American businesses and investors to invest in America. This tax policy will work to reinvigorate the American auto-industry, support working families by lessening their burden, and giving American companies good reason to keep their businesses here at home.

Finally, the Abboud Economic platform proposes tax incentives that will help the U.S. become the world’s premier source for new energy solutions. In the next twenty years, the U.S. must become the leader in solving the world’s energy crisis, and subsequently, the supplier of all new energy technology. The first step is to give the America car makers the support they need to regain a competitive edge in the world auto market.

The Abboud Tax Platform will:

  1.   Create tax incentives that encourage American businesses to keep and grow their businesses right here at home.
  2.   Create tax incentives that draw foreign companies and investors back to the U.S.
  3.   Give working families and individuals the tax break they deserve, spreading the burden of funding our government equally.
  4.   Reinvigorate the American auto industry by re-routing existing tax dollars generated from the Federal Gas Tax to the research and production of plug-in hybrid technology.
